Classically trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London and the Juilliard School, New York, Barnaby's involvement with film music began in 1999 as music advisor to director Michael Winterbottom on "With or Without You", in which he also featured as clarinet soloist on the soundtrack with the Philharmonia Orchestra. Since then he has worked as a consultant on "Two Brothers"/Jean-Jacques Annaud as well as performing on numerous film scores including "Finding Neverland", "Shackelton", "Miss Potter", "Moliere", "Tideland" and "State of Play". He started to compose for film in 2005, with a score for the award winning short "Plastic".

June 2010 sees the release of 4.3.2.1 the new Universal Picture from BAFTA winning writer, director and actor Noel Clarke. Barnaby worked with co composer Adam Lewis scoring this much anticipated feature from the director of Kidulthood and Adulthood. Additionally, Barnaby was the music arranger on the film and solo scored the 4321 teaser trailer which you can see right here. His music production company 'excellentmusic Ltd' provided musicians for on set performance and post production studio sync sessions.
Other recent work includes original music for the feature length "Bike Squad", a Hat Trick comedy/drama for ITV1, staring Mark Addy (Full Monty), Maxine Peake (Shameless), written and directed by Guy Jenkin (Outnumbered).
Barnaby has written production tracks for KPM and Extreme Music libraries and these are used extensively in current TV output from "The One Show" to CBBC programming. He has also composed a number of scores for commercial clients including 'BP' and the Aga Khan.
In 2005 Barnaby scored the short film "Plastic" Mark Davis/Retro-Juice. "Plastic" was awarded the ‘Audience Choice Award’ at the 2006 London International Festival of Science Fiction Film and nominated for a Melies D'Or award at the Ravenna Festival in Italy.
He is an enthusiastic collaborator and since the early 90’s, has worked with the BAFTA wining sound designer Martin Cantwell, on a diverse array of projects from producing indie rock bands to recording music by Steve Reich for use in live performances. Clients have included BBC Radio 3, the London Sinfonietta, Editpool & Hat Trick Ltd.

Barnaby works from his studio in Kent, based around a a Logic/Pro Tools set up with an extensive sample library & facilities for live recording and surround mixing. Through long established contacts with studios and musicians in London, Bratislava and Sydney, Barnaby can provide competitive quotes for large scale studio facilities and orchestral sessions if required.
